Home Care is Not a Career, It’s a Calling
We know your first priority when choosing a home care provider is finding someone you can trust and rely on… someone who will care for your loved one as you would, and as we would our own. We’ve been where you are, and this is one of the main reasons we chose to be in this business.
Bobby Scruggs: Co-Owner, President & General Manager of FirstLight Home Care of Austin
Bobby leads the business development and community relations of the agency. Prior to opening the FirstLight office, Bobby held a number of Sales Management, Customer Marketing and Business Development positions with Fortune 500 companies during his 30+ year career in corporate America. Bobby graduated from Ohio University with a BBA degree in Marketing. He always wanted to own his own business, so he founded Scruggs Family Holdings, Inc. in 2018 and it serves as the parent company of FirstLight Home Care of Austin.
His passion for the senior care industry began when his dad, Samuel Scruggs, Sr., was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2008. Living the experience of searching for the optimal care for his dad, he developed a keen interest in the health and well-being of seniors. He is now devoted to helping other families explore all of their options for senior care.
Bobby also volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association-Capital of Texas Chapter and serves on the Board of Directors for the Austin Kappa Education and Leadership Foundation (AKELF).
Michelle Scruggs: Co-Owner and Administrator for FirstLight Home Care of Austin
Michelle Scruggs is Co-Owner and Administrator for FirstLight Home Care of Austin. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she aspired to a career in Education.
Prior to relocating to Austin, Michelle put her career on hold to become the primary caregiver for her Mom, Barbara Gollatte, for the final three years of her life. She was grateful to be able to stay at home with her Mom and support her when Barbara was in the most need. That experience along with Michelle’s innate compassion for others continues to drive her attentiveness with seniors.
In addition to her responsibilities as our Administrator, she oversees our FirstLight Caregiver Training curricula to ensure that our caregivers have all of the tools that they need to provide quality care to our clients.
Michelle is a Certified Ageless Grace Fitness Educator in addition to her role as an 8th Grade Mathematics Inclusion teacher in the Austin ISD.
LaToya Mott: Care Coordinator for FirstLight Home Care of Austin
LaToya started at FirstLight Home Care of Austin as Recruiting Specialist in October of 2021, but she is no stranger to Senior and Family Care, nor is she new to the FirstLight Family. LaToya’s journey into championing the lives of others began over 16 years ago, with the majority of her career centered in Healthcare Business Development, Digital Marketing, Project Management, and Business Process Optimization.
She began her career with FirstLight as an Area Director of Business Development in Northern Colorado, where she acted as a conduit, bridging the gap between residents and the untapped resources within their respective communities. LaToya feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work within each level of care across the Continuum of Care during her career: Independent Living; Assisted Living; Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (inpatient and outpatient); Behavioral Health; Home Health; and Hospice.
Being able to advocate for seniors, those who are sick, persons with disabilities, and their loved ones, is what LaToya is most proud of in her career.
Virginia Coy: Staff Registered Nurse for FirstLight Home Care of Austin
Virginia is a true Austin native, and has watched Austin grow from a population of just over 300,000 to now over 2,000,000 residents. She spent 28 years at Breckenridge Hospital as a Trauma Nurse Practitioner. In her role as Staff R.N., Virginia is responsible for performing all initial assessment for Veterans Administration clients and conducting periodic follow-up wellness visits.
She enjoys spending time with her fiance, John, her daughter Kristen, and her dog, Riley. Virginia also enjoys hiking, camping, all outdoor activities and giving back to the community. She volunteers at Community First and the Central Texas Food Bank.
